Church of All Nations Jerusalem - Guided Tour

Itinerary for The Holyland Heritage Tour - Guided tour of Israel

Day 1 (Thursday arrival): Flights from the UK to Tel Aviv (Ben Gurion). On arrival, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel in Tel Aviv.

Day 2: Your guided tour of the Holyland commences! After being picked up, start with a short visit to Old Jaffa and take a walking tour through the atmospheric, winding alleys of the fortified town, passing by the house of Simon the Tanner and taking in magnificent hilltop views. Drive on to Caesarea, originally built by Herod the Great in honour of Augustus Caesar and now home to fascinating archaeological remains. Continue on to Megiddo, traditionally the site of the battle of Armageddon, and visit the ruins. Drive on towards the Sea of Galilee and check in to your hotel in Tiberias.

Day 3: The day is spent in the heart of the Holyland - Galilee and the surrounding area, starting in Tiberias, where Jesus lived and preached. Next is Capernaum, the centre of Jesus’ ministry, and then on to the site of the miracle of the feeding of the 5000 at Tabgha. See the mosaic floor at the Church of Multiplication, depicting a basket with loaves and fish. Drive on to the Mount of Beatitudes, where the Sermon on the Mount was delivered and where many believe Jesus selected the 12 apostles. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 4: Travel to Cana in the morning to visit the Wedding Church, where Jesus performed his first miracle - turning water into wine. Continue on to Nazareth and the Church of Annunciation, built on the site where the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary, and then on to Mary’s Well and Joseph’s Church. Proceed on through the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean, an ancient Roman city with many fascinating excavations including a recently uncovered amphitheatre. At the end of the day, drive on the Jerusalem and check in to your hotel.

Day 5: Drive through the utterly unique and unforgettable scenery of the Dead Sea region to Massada, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ascend by cable car to the fortress, which is located on a steep cliff top, and visit the ancient fortress which was the last stronghold of the Jewish zealots in the war against the Romans. See King Herod’s palace and the excavations and enjoy the panoramic views. After descending, drive on to the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Proceed on to the Dead Sea and experience the unique buoyancy of the water and mineral-rich muds (weather permitting). Return to Jerusalem and your hotel.

Day 6: The first of two full days in the eternal city, Jerusalem. Start at Mount Scopus and take in the view over the city. Visit the Mount of Olives, the site where Jesus first gave the Lord’s Prayer and the Garden of Gethsemane, where Judas betrayed Jesus. Enter the Old City and see the Western Wall and Temple Mount before walking on the Way of the Cross, the Via Dolorosa, to Calvary and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, site of the Crucifixion and the Tomb of the Resurrection. Finally, visit the tomb of King David and the Room of the Last Supper at Mount Zion, just outside the city. Return to your hotel.

Day 7: Your second day in Jerusalem includes a variety of sights, including visits to the memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust; Ein Karem, a picturesque village on the outskirts of Jerusalem where John the Baptist was born; the Israel Museum; and the Shrine of the Book, home to the Dead Sea Scrolls. We also drive past the Knesset (Houses of Parliament) and the Hebrew University. If the situation permits, visit Bethlehem and see Rachel’s Tomb and the Church of the Nativity. Return to your hotel.

Day 8: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK, or to Eilat or Tel Aviv if you have chosen to extend your visit.
